Joel Kelm, CEO
Joel Kelm is the founder and CEO of Kraken Defense Group, bringing over 20 years of experience in Fire, EMS, disaster planning, and high-risk security operations. His career began in federal security contracting after 9/11, including work with the Department of Defense, and has since expanded into Executive Protection, emergency medicine, and mission-critical leadership.
Joel has taught EMS for more than a decade and is known for disciplined leadership, practical training, and execution under pressure. He
attended the Montana Law Enforcement Academy, and has provided security and EMS services for high-net-worth individuals and families who require discretion, readiness, and uncompromising professionalism.
He also founded a Critical Care Transport service built around advanced technology and started a Basic Life Support Air Ambulance Program. Joel worked backcountry rescue throughout the Rocky Mountain region from Gallatin County SAR and other agencies.
From luxury estates to remote terrain, Joel’s background reflects a deep understanding of protection, preparedness, and performance where failure is not an option.
Outside of work, Joel enjoys shooting, hunting, and mountaineering — pursuits that reflect the same focus, endurance, and tactical mindset he brings to every mission.

Bobby Overbey
Bobby Overbey brings over two decades of experience in emergency services, prehospital medicine, critical care transport, and emergency healthcare. He began his career in Fire Rescue and EMS at the age of 20, earning his EMT Basic certification in 2007 and building experience in both fire-based and county EMS systems. Later he advanced to Intermediate 99 EMT in 2012, followed by Paramedic licensure in 2013, and soon after obtained his Critical Care Paramedic credentials. For more than ten years, he served in air medical transport as both a Flight Paramedic and Flight Nurse on fixed-wing ambulance platforms, caring for critically ill and injured patients in high-acuity environments. In December 2024, Bobby completed his Family Nurse Practitioner degree and now practices as the sole Emergency Room provider at rural critical access and trauma-receiving hospitals. In addition to healthcare, Bobby currently serves as a Reserve Police Officer with the Glasgow, Montana Police Department and has functioned as a tactical medic for the Valley County SRT for several years. Outside of his professional work, Bobby is a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under William Grundhauser and holds a green sash in the art of Lethwei under Jason Boyer. Bobby also competes as an amateur MMA fighter and holds a featherweight title in a Montana promotion.
